Honeybees are incredible creatures. The more we learn about them, the more intriguing they are! Their colonies are a model of efficiency and we feel privileged to be able to observe them so closely. Bees are the only insects on earth that provide us with food.
Our bees are of the European species (specifically Italian) and we carefully select our queens to produce bees that are especially docile and disease resistant. They also make lots of delicious honey! Read about our honey here. We try to keep several colonies (hives) and are usually able to harvest honey from them twice a year.
Many people do not realize that honeybees are absolutely vital to our food supply - about one of every three mouthfuls of food you eat is dependent on honeybees. Honeybees are the sole pollinator for numerous varieties of fruits, nuts and other plants upon which we are dependent.
We harvest honey from our bees several times a season so we accumulate quite a bit of beeswax as well. It is a remarkable substance - read more about it here. It has traditionally been used to make candles, soaps, and other household items as well as candies and cosmetics. We gently melt and filter ours in our own kitchen and use it to make our Beeswax Lip Balm and Lotion Bars.
Bees are not domesticated. They do whatever they want, so sometimes we have more bees than we can handle. If you have some experience keeping bees and would like a colony of your own, just email us to find out if we have any available for sale or if you have any questions.
