Our Chickens

We love our chickens.  They control the bug population, keep our topsoil aerated and fertilized, entertain kids, and keep us supplied with fresh, great-tasting eggs.

Our chickens are allowed to forage in the woods, take dust baths and do other things that chickens love to do and are confined only at night to protect them from predators.  We keep our flocks small to ensure optimum health and happiness for the birds.

Our flock is always changing, it seems, but it is usually made up of heritage breed brown egg layers and Ameracaunas (blue and green egg layers) as well as a few bantams that are not the most prolific layers but are great mothers and pets.  Sometimes, those mother hens hatch more chicks than we need and we will occasionally offer chicks or young chickens for sale.

Among our favorite breeds are Silver-Laced Wyandottes, Barred Plymouth RocksBuff Orpingtons, New Hampshire Reds, Belgian Bearded d'Uccles, Silkies, bantam Cochins, and Ameracaunas.  We choose breeds based on their hardiness and temperament and prefer traditional breeds that are proven to flourish on small farms.

If you are accustomed to the flavor of grocery store eggs (even "free range" ones), you will be pleasantly surprised when you taste the farm fresh eggs from our happy hens.  They are nutritionally superior as well since the chickens have access to an unlimited and varied diet of their favorite seeds, plants and insects.  We collect our eggs at least twice a day and refrigerate them immediately.

When we have surplus eggs, we are more than happy to sell them by the dozen.  Click here to email us for more information.
